Ukrainian Sunflower Oil Share Rises to 22% on the Indian Market

Ukraine continues to strengthen its position in global agricultural exports, particularly in sunflower oil.

According to analytical agency APK-Inform, exports of Ukrainian sunflower oil in April 2025 reached a five-month high of 478,000 tonnes — a 9% increase compared to March.

Despite this growth, the figure was the lowest for April over the past three seasons. The European Union and Turkey remain the main export destinations, with stable or slightly increased volumes. Notably, shipments to Turkey doubled to 69,000 tonnes — the highest monthly figure for this direction in the past year.

Exports to India saw a seasonal decline, falling by 48% to 48,000 tonnes. This drop is attributed to growing interest in other vegetable oils, such as palm and soybean, driven by pricing and supply factors.

However, the broader seasonal trend is positive: during the first seven months of the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine tripled its sunflower oil exports to India — reaching 374,000 tonnes — and increased its market share to 22%, up from 7% in the previous season. This shift reflects the growing trust in Ukrainian products and their competitiveness in complex markets.

2025 Outlook: With sufficient raw material reserves and consistent production, Ukrainian exporters have a strong opportunity to further expand their presence. Still, increasing competition from other oilseed-producing countries highlights the importance of agile strategies and innovation in export development.

Mirasol Seed closely monitors global market trends and continues to develop advanced sunflower hybrids tailored to the needs of Ukrainian and international growers. After all, high-quality seeds are the foundation of a successful harvest and sustainable export potential.
